the 411

As many of you know I have been having swelling in my feet, legs and wrists. I have had blood tests and x-rays checking for everything from Lupus to Rheumatoid Arthritis. So far all tests have come up negative. My Doctor is at a loss but we are going to see a Rheumatologist in May. I was put on steroids but as soon as I was done with them the swelling started to return. When it was at it's worst I was bed ridden for about 5 days only getting up a few times a day and then I needed a walker to get around. We are hoping the specialist has some answers.

  1. Oh, gee! Are you going to the cities to see a rheumatologist? I assume that if they ruled out lupus and RA, they have already done bloodwork to check your ANA levels? That is what indicates an auto-immune disorder. I deal with swelling and pain often, like today! I still take the oral chemo weekly to help with those symptoms. Looking at about 2 more years of it. I have scleroderma, which is similar to lupus and ms. I see the head of rhuematolgy and professor at National Jewish Hospital in Denver. I wouldn't have it any other way. He tells me that I always keep him on his toes with all of the strange symptoms and side effects that I get.

Good luck to you, and keep me updated. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Hopefully they can give you something besides the steroids. Those things are nasty! I'd much rather take the chemo than the steroids.

  2. Your right about the steroids, they suck. they did check ANA levels, all in normal range and today I had a chest x-ray looking for something called sarcoidosis. I'm seeing a doctor in Fargo that's supposed to be really good. I also really like my Dr. here. She's very thorough and calls to check in often. I hope things are going well for you. We're to damn young for all this stuff!!!
