You read that right, it's taken me this long to bring myself to type it on the blog. They lost last Saturday to Devils Lake 28-21. Well now it's on to wrestling...

Mud Bowl!!!

Last night the Huskies won their 10th straight game, Yeah!!! We beat Bismarck St. Mary's 43-13 in the first play-off game. We had to play the game on my old high school field (Breckenridge) due to our field being so tore up. We left that field in pretty bad shape too. Take a look at the pictures and see just how muddy they were...the best way to find Nick is look for the tape on his knee brace. We play Devils Lake next Saturday, location to be determined.

Undefeated Regular Season!
They did it! The Huskies finished their regular season undefeated with a win against Valley City. We were expecting a bit more of a game than what we got but ended up with a 40-0 victory. Nick said it was the most fun he's had in a long time.(our field is a mess so the game was VERY muddy) We now move on to the quarter-finals with home field advantage. We will be playing Bismarck St. Mary's.

Lindig Farms

Over the weekend Randy and I took Addison to Lindig Farms. It's a pumpkin patch near Orwell Dam. You can pick your own pumpkins, pet and feed farm animals, play in a corn box, go on a hay ride, all sorts of fun stuff. We've gone there the last few years and I have even taken the daycare a few times. I highly recommend it if your in the area. http://www.lindigfarms.com/

Football 24/7
As with every fall we are the football family. If we're not running to a game we're picking up or dropping off at a practice. If we're at home we're watching a game on TV (usually collage) or talking about a game or an amazing hit someone just saw. Last week Jake and Matt both had games on Thursday night against Breck. They were both victorious! YEAH! Jake's team is 1-1 and Matt's is 1-0. They both play again this Thursday. To keep you updated on Nick, he did play Friday against Kindred. He was a bit worried about the knee as it had rained on and off all day and he thought the field would be slick. He played most of the way through the 3rd quarter when they pulled most of the starters because we were winning 46-6. Our record is now 5-0 as we head to Grafton on Friday.

The 411
So to keep everyone in the loop and to put some minds at ease Nick is going to be fine. For those of you who heard it one the radio ie. grandma and grandpa he did finish the game last Friday night against Shanley. Now to back track for those of you who don't know what happened. In the 4th quarter of the game Nick sprained his MCL, I'm told it's a classic lineman injury. He's VERY sore but is in a brace permanently to play and practice. He was back practicing lightly on Tuesday and plans to play Friday against Kindred. We are now 4 - 0 and ranked #1 in state. We hope to hold on to that as long as possible. Please check out the great pictures on the link on the side of the page ( just click on the stadium shot, them click on 2009 Huskie Football- Nick is #66)

Huskie Football 2-0
The Huskies are 2-0 so far this year. We have beat Bismarck St. Mary's 25-0 and Breckenridge 28-0. We hope to continue our winning streak this Friday night when we face Central Cass . They are also 2-0 so it should be a very good game. Nick is starting at center and also goes in occasionally on defense. It's homecoming week here so excitement is running high. If your in the area please join us for a game and if you are unable, check out the coverage from the Wahpeton Daily News link on our page.
Summers Over...
Well for us summer is officially over. We brought all the major stuff home from the lake (grill, golf cart, boat) and cleaned everything top to bottom. We would love to make a few more trips out in September but our schedules just don't allow. We had wonderful weather this weekend, the kids got to tube and knee board one last time (see pics). I think everyone left the lake happy and looking forward to next year.

Vacation 2009
Another year of vacation has come and gone. The weather did not cooperate but we made our own fun. By the end of the week we got smart and took the kids (adults too) to Thumper Pond water park. 22 of us went that day and we were over half of the people there. Needless to say we had a bit of fun! During the week we occupied our time with games like backyard golf, the beanbag game and frizbeer. (Nicks favorite game) The adults tried their hand at beer pong, (Butch your t-shirt is correct, you are the champion) We are looking forward to the rest of the summer however short it may be and are already making plans for next years vacation.

Lilly

Yes we (and when I say we I mean me) cracked and got another cat. When we had to put Duchess to sleep in April I swore never to have another cat. Apparently in our house never is about 3 months. Addison would ask us often when she could go up to heaven and get Duchess back. I challenge any of you to resist that... then last Monday while watching TV Addison saw an ASPCA commercial (yeah the ones that make you cry) and at the end it said to contact your local Humane Society to get a pet near you. She came running in the kitchen and announced "mom, that's where we can go to get Duchess back". Well, we didn't end up with Duchess but now we have Lilly. She's a 6 week old Himalayan cross that loves to play and really loves Addi.

Twin Town World Series
Last night Matt's baseball team the Rockies won the Twin Town Baseball Leagues first ever minor league World Series. They came in to the tournament in 4th place and ended up winning it all. I give so much of the credit to their coach Jake Allen. He did an amazing job!! This team improved 110% over the season. Congrats to all the Rockies on a great game and a great season.

Addison's Playhouse
Well the playhouse arrived on Friday morning thanks to Grandpa Jim. He hauled it here on a trailer from Oakes going 30mph the whole way. It was a windy day and they (he and Neal, the man who built it) were concerned how it would travel. It did fine and Jack (owner of Kanga movers) took it off the trailer and placed it on the site. Addison spent the day at Grandma and Grandpas so she wouldn't see it until it was finished. We had a group of people working all day to get it put together. A BIG thank you goes out to all of them. A special thanks goes out to Margie and Neal, they did such an amazing job. I hope Addi has as much fun playing in it as they had building it...

Wahpeton Air Show
On Wednesday dad and I took the daycare kids to the Wahpeton Air Show. It was an impressive display I must say. For a small town they really put on a great show. We left home before 10:00 and didn't return until nearly 2:00. We had some very tired children but it was well worth it. They had a wonderful turn out, we live about 4 blocks from the airport and cars were parked even farther down than our house. I got a bit snap happy with the camera, after we got home I realized I took over 180 pictures. I guess I liked the show! Unfortunately Randy missed the whole thing, he was at the lake. They delivered our new camper that morning and he needed to be there to help with the set-up. We are now in a new spot, with a larger camper and ready for guests so come on out and visit us. We always have cold beer. See you soon!

Duchess 4-22-09

Last Wednesday we did one one the hardest things any family has to do. We put our pet of 15 years to sleep. We've had her since Nick was just 18mo. old and she has been a huge part of our life ever since. She's lived with us in every house, including going with us when we moved around after the flood of '97. She was the moodiest cat and would hiss and snarl at everyone except for Nick and I, so it has been very hard for the two of us to let go. We all went as a family and were with her right to the end. A few years ago we also had to put Randy's cat "Tonight" to sleep, so we are officially a cat free household. I have not been without a cat since I was 7 years old. This is a bit strange for me but I will adjust and be strong as the kids ask for a new kitty.
Dodgeball...

No, not the movie... a real life dodgeball tournament. Last night Nick and four of his friends participated in a dodgeball tournament that benefited Relay-for-life. Michelle and I went to watch because who could pass up that opportunity? We ended up seeing former classmates, friends and people we never expected to see playing dodgeball. We hope they are all doing well today. Some of them took some pretty nasty hits. I took a few pictures but felt it was more important to protect my face, some of these guys had no aim at all! I did find out however I have cat like reflexes.

Another Day...
We have made it through another day here in Wahp/Breck with out any major problems. One issue that did arise is there was a weak spot in a dike on the Wahpeton side near the old water tower, fortunately it was caught early and was fixed and the crises was averted. I give credit to all the sandbaggers around the two towns and out lying communities. I took yesterday off and Randy, myself, Dawn (Jarvis), Nick and Pat (Griffin) went and helped sandbag in Wolverton and Kent then headed to our friend Festus' near Colfax. Our prayers are with those families as the water rises near there homes. Yesterday was Nick and Pat's second full day of sandbagging and we're called out again this morning by their wrestling coach to help out. They were gone by 8:30 again. I'm not sure if Nick's back will ever recover but he's very aware that just 12 years ago it was his house that needed saving. Today we woke to snow, while I hate snow in March it's a blessing that it's not rain and it may have slowed things a bit. Also, the kids are home for the third day in a row, lucky me!!!

Flood of 2009
Well, here we go again...Unlike last time though, I am not the one to worry about. My parents are. This whole thing is like a bad dream for me. After losing my house in '97 and going through everything that we did after the flood (before the house was bought out). I see what people are going through and what they will go through. My parents can now see the river (The Red) clearly from their front window. Many people have come today to help sandbag and we thank them all so much for that. Nick and some friends have also joined in the fight. I will keep you updated on everything.

Top Dog Tournament
This past weekend we had our Top Dog wrestling Tournament here in Wahpeton. We had 300 kids and all went surprisingly well. We were completely exhausted by the end of the day as Randy and I both worked different parts of the tournament and ran like crazy people from 6:30am on. I posted some pics of Jake wrestling. We found out that I am capable of taking pictures and watching at the same time...Randy is not...all the pictures of Matt are of him shaking hands, then Randy forgets he's got the camera at all. Needless to say this weekend the camera will be under my control. Check back soon for Pictures of Matt.

State Wrestling
Well state wrestling is over...our team ended up fourth in the duals which is better than anyone thought. When we got home I was looking through the Grappler Preview from last fall and most coach's didn't place us higher than 6th or 7th, so 4th feels pretty good. Nick got to wrestle at the tournament which was a really exciting to his overly excitable mom. (I thought I was going to throw up, he handled it fine) Also, congrats to Pat Rollins on his state championship at #119. We are now on to youth wrestling for Jacob and Matt and USA Wrestling for all 3. Jake and Matt have practice 2 nights a week and Nick helps coach Matt's group. Then they have all started wrestling with the USA program. That is coached by former University of Nebraska head coach Tim Neumann, he is a wonderful coach and we are lucky to have his expertise in our area. It is times like this when I am so glad Nick has a drivers licence.

EDC Wrestling
Well it's that time of year again, we are off to regionals. It's in West Fargo this year and the big news is Nick's wrestling varsity. He needs a win to qualify him to go on to state the following week. We will all be there to cheer him and the rest of our team on. I believe we are currently 3rd going into regionals and hope we make a good showing. We'll keep you posted as to how things go. If you are in the area we would love to see you in West Fargo, but make sure your wearing your Huskie colors!
